Welcome to the 'Dinnages Picture Library' Newsletters

Newsletters are our early postal offerings of Photographs from the Dinnages Picture Library.

Check out more than 1450 original images from the Dinnages Picture Library in our galleries.

Note that when negatives were on loan, after expiry of each Newsletter, images will NOT be reprinted!

Within our online store catagory 'Photographs', this covers ALL photographs published by us trading as 'Dinnages', created direct from original negatives or slides in our Picture Library. These Photographs in the Dinnages Picture Library are both Black & White, and in Colour, taken from negatives or slides directly owned, like those shown above on exclusive loan, available as reprints either at an 'old postcard' format when they were 'hand printed' or generally since, like colour views at 6"x4". As anyone can imagine, the scanning, cataloging and adding to our online store will take quite a long time, considering this amounts to over 30,000 of our own images, let alone those from the Barrie Hutson collection. Some of these B&W views have at one time been offered from our events stand. Note that we are sure that the material we are publishing has not been previously published or printed by any other individual or society. In very few cases the original photographer may have lent out a few negatives in the seventies for example so these will no longer be available from others now as we hold the original negatives anyway. Some have been published in a handful of places, often without true and proper credit where it should have been. There are a few 'misused' in books and print form and an ongoing list is added to all the time detailing those we know of, authorised or not. Some of the colour images we hold the negatives of, should not have been printed by others at 6x4! Those that are, are definately unauthorised copies, maybe you have them already! If you see or buy an image we have published, then do please let us know. Consider the effort, cost and credit where its due and just buy the right ones.

Remember you cannot just use any photograph you own and upload to Flickr,
your own web space, even worse, sell them as your own !

These online newsletters provided here are for archival reference. Should you wish to make an order, please send your order using the current form by post NOT by email. Orders for the Dinnages Photo Library through the Newsletter are not accepted through any other means. Note that the online layout as offered via PDF files does not exactly match the original printed pages. The images other than those seen in thumbnail sheets will be poor quality than seen in Newsletter, this deters theft of those images. Orders for prints off any of these newsletters will require an application from the correct order form. Requests for images for previous issues will be supplied by customers only using the most recent order form. We reserve the right to decline orders through an application for images, returning any payments made, or decline sales of our library via our events stand. We reprint as many times as is required to satisfy those postal orders, although no gurantee that all images are to be made available on the stall. Selected particular photographs will only be made available for purchase through the online store at both 6x4 and 9x6 such as depots, garages and railway stations.

Some years ago after closing our retail premises, we wrote to our regular customers keeping them informed of new stock across the board, although had difficulty offering newly printed photographs, as lists were just that, long lists of text, not being able to show the images themselves. However as of Spring 2009 we had revived these so called newsletters, although only catering for the photograph library. This Newsletter book format, folded to A5, are specifically aimed at our customers who have little or no internet access or could not meet us at our stall (such as ex-Pats in Spain and Canada) are an ideal way to keep a regular and managable source of prints on offer throughout the year, not tied to the few Summer and local events. So far few photographs have been made available for online purchase, takes rather more time than we have spare, so we would encourage all of those interested in our Picture Library to subscribe to the postal Newsletter for a regular supply and select some from our regular offerings. Our offerings are based only on Brighton, Hove & District, Southdown Motor Services and Brighton Corporation Transport, with additional other local operators on occasions. Having our photo newsletter pages set at A5, this being the preferred format and size of most club booklets and club Journals, such as now used by the 'Sussex Transport Interest Group'.
Within this format we are able to provide a page of thumbnails of tradional B&W images offered, with colour selections since the January 2010 issue too. The latter selections take longer for us to catalogue and more care is needed on early colour negatives. Those who would like a printed copy with all images shown, just send us a (DL/A5) stamped SAE. Postal rates through the Newsletter for these photographs on offer are lower than the online store as a payment is by cheque/BACS only and just covers an average postal cost not including the cost of a boarded envelope. Generally our average postage cost across the month was about 71p leaving just 4p towards the envelope! Since April 2010 the rates went up again, then again in January and April 2011, however we have kept our flat rate 75p Postage fee per order (single or multiple issues) whatever the amount ordered.
Online sales and the postal Picture Library Newsletter orders cannot be combined, as they cater for different payment and admin methods. Newsletter subscribers have first offers on newly printed photographs which should not be available anywhere else. Views on expiry are then made available on our events stand on a first come basis. You could order from an expired issue, however only those within our library. Loaned negative collections cannot be printed once expired, such as those from Barrie Hutson.

For sample images taken by Jim H Jones some added to the Flickr albums.

Our 'used' collection of photographs covering all of the UK is somewhat unique, having since 1993 purchased 'spares' from many enthusiasts around the country when having clear outs of their collections, of duplicates or just having a downsize. This vast stock of currently over 70,000 or more UK wide views will in time diminish as we will only purchase 'local' views from trusted sources, with a rough guide to a cut off of the mid 1980's as there are just so many stallholders and dealers with post 1980 material, actually most stock is post 1990 views! The quality of some colour is quite dubious, on the colour of modern views and of older images scanned and stretched to fit 6x4 too. This depletion in time of our 'used' stock will give us more space to dedicate to our own material, not just material based around the Brighton area. You may find a few selections of genuine original prints will at times be offered through our auction sales. The 'used' views cover trams, trolleybuses, motor buses, some railway, and cover many periods on B&W views from 1938 to colour from the 1970's to the present day.
