Dinnages Transport/Picture Publishing

Dinnages, a family team, originally collectors themselves, became dealers in a variety of collectibles during 1988-1989. Since 1993 using the titles 'DTP Library' , 'Dinnages Negative Library' or similar, began collecting and providing archive & modern views of transport, with a separate library then created for the local Brighton/Sussex/UK topograhical views taken from the negatives or slides.

The 'Dinnages Negative Library' has created an archive library of both nostalgic & modern images to transport enthusiasts, historians, museum studies & the transport industry since establishing this ongoing archive of views, primarily from original negatives, & slides. The recipients have included 'Brighton & Hove Bus and Coach Co.', Brighton Museum, various book authors, transport magazines, local newspapers, Ian Allen Publishing & many individuals for personal reference & display. These have all been provided on a 'prior agreement basis' to comply with copyright and current ownership and assignment of these images.

Barrie Hutson has framed many views of the 'Dinnages Negative Library' as single & multi-view images including his own material, the latter now available exclusively through Dinnages.

Our own postcard views shown down on the left column, & many others as photographs have been made available through Dinnages Transport Publishing as the collective 'Dinnages Negative Library' by the transport enthusiasts who have allowed their collections of photographic material to be reproduced for others to benefit from their work. Had it not been for these people, we would not have the pleasure to enjoy such views, particularly when many of the costs & access to film & developing were high around the Second World War 1939-1945 & the following few years.

The 'Dinnages Postcard Series' is now aimed at creating charitable cards that generate funds for specific preservation & restoration projects. The views are either taken from the 'Dinnages Negative Library' or are provided by the charity or preservation group themselves. With upfront costs, the 'charity' will be provided with a very favorable deal enabling them to sell an exclusive postcard to generate funds. We also would like to source quality & worthy snowy transport views for Christmas & general Greeting cards aimed specifically at childrens charities.

Aiming to help charitable, preservation & non-profit groups and societies, many of the postcards have now generated funds in some way for those specific causes, noted by the reference 'CC' in the card number. Some of these charitable projects have been given areas on the sister web site at www.Sussex-Transport.co.uk

To find out more about all the images in the 'Dinnages Negative Library', browse the rest of this site through its new 'Welcome Page' & the sister 'Sussex-Transport' club site, then contact us using either of the feedback forms, depending on your interest.

'Dinnages' are always interested in your own photographs, negatives or slides, preferably pre-1970 Road & Rail Transport, in particular your own good Transport Snow or Sussex scenes. Feedback is very welcome, & for that you will even receive a postcard or photo gift for your request for information & your specific interest when sent through the post with an SAE when you mention either site, as a gesture of thanks. Enquiries by email are welcome but the postcard gift does not include the postage & packing required! Sorry you would still need to send an SAE for that.

For those of you who know all about creating web pages, HTML, Javascript, & php, the creation and manipulation of such material, all of the pages on any of the sites managed and created by 'Dinnages' have been written primarily in the raw hand-coded HTML using mainly just Notepad, and usually written on the fly so to speak, although with some programs converting long data files from spreadsheets and 'tidy' helpers to find those elusive errors! A simple page began in October 2000 just for the fun of it, not using any costly programs like Dreamweaver or using Flash for moving content or logos, just simple, readable pages, for easy loading with plenty of images from our vast library. Rarely these pages have used wizards in the creation, & the intention is to make the pages readable by as wider audience as possible, on what ever system you have.

If you are having difficulty, or find your browser does not do what it should, brings an error, missing links or images, again please let 'Dinnages' know, we would send you a freeby if you like too. Many places have been good inspiration, but nothing has been 'lifted' from other sites. A very good highly reccomended source of reference comes from books published by O'Reilly
These are not books for the novice, really in-depth topics whatever your area of computing.
