The single track railway ran from Ash Junction to Farnham Junction in Surrey and passed through coutryside at Ash Green and Tongham, origainlly part of double laid track between Guildford and Alton. First opened in 1849, to Alton 1852, extended to the main London to Southampton line in 1865.With electrification of lines in the area, this one being single track then, the passenger service ceased in 1937. The section through Tongham was out of use for goods traffic in 1954, and closed fully in 1960.
